9s voice test!!

(voice test post for 9s, taking him from the end of route b. all prompts are assuming he's in some sort of game and has seen humans before so i can avoid any threads with possible humans all going the same way.)

[ So 9S is in ... a shopping mall. And while those may only be relatively exciting for most humans, to an android like him, it's extra amazing. To the point where he can't hide how interested he is in everything.

And right now, he's peering in at the T-shirts on display in the glass window of a store.

When suddenly his pod speaks up. ]

Analysis: Unit 9S will require human currency for the exchange of goods.

[ Good job, Pod 153, you've stated the obvious. 9S sounds a little annoyed and offended at the implication that he's not aware of that. Of course he's aware of it. ]

I know that. [ Changing the subject a little. ] You think 2B would like one?

[ Because he'll get one for her. Or bring her here. Or anything!! ]

Purpose of question unknown.

[ ... Of course it is. ]

[ Have you ever seen someone so interested in the night? No, probably not. It's not even a particularly dazzling night — it's just a normal, partly cloudy night. But everything is dark, and the moon is half visible, and you can see some of the stars, and — wow. 9S has never seen what the night looks like on Earth, considering the sun never leaves the sky where he's from. He'd thought that when it was night, it looked like the scenery from the Bunker windows, but — this is a little different. There's the moon up there in one of its phases, and clouds, and not all of the stars are visible.

It just has a different feeling.

So, while looking up at the sky, he gives the order to his pod. ]

Pod, I need you to take a picture of this.

[ It's ... winter?? Or at least very cold — cold enough for the ground to have frozen over. Which, while 9S has read records on this sort of thing, he's never experienced it. It kind of super sucks, actually. It makes it way too hard to move around and if there were machines around here, he'd be totally screwed (he's not a fighter in the first place!!).

So he looks like an idiot trying not to fall on the ice, because he's already experienced it a few times so far and he's not looking to experience it again.

Until it happens. Again. And he's sitting on the ice, totally and completely Not Here for this. Even if it is valuable data, it's annoying. ]

Man, this is such a pain. How did humans live in these sorts of conditions?

[ How does anything live in this? It makes you so vulnerable. ]

Are you sure you're alright? Did something happen when you fell earlier?

[YOU'RE WORRYING HER, MAN, thanks Pod 153 for the tip. Unconsciously, she grips his arms just a little tighter. She doesn't understand why his pulse rate is rising, she's concerned!!]

[ Look he doesn't understand why it's rising either and also he notices that gripping and it just makes him feel bad for apparently worrying her so much. It's amazing how clearly she displays her emotions to him despite trying so hard not to all the time. Or maybe she just doesn't realize she's doing this. ]

I'm fine, 2B, nothing happened! Why're you so worried?

[ He sounds ... a bit amused with that question he poses. All he did was fall a little it's not like all of his systems are going to break from that, after all the fighting he's been through. ]

[Oh... He's right, she's definitely overreacting. Emotions are prohibited. Weird rising pulse rate or no, 9S is an android. There's really no need to worry about him. Honestly, there's no point in being concerned over his well-being.

She doesn't deserve to.]

... Pod 153 made it sound serious. But you're right. [She drops her hands to her sides, calming down. Sounding as stoic as ever.] My mistake.

[ —Oh. She got all stoic all of a sudden. Maybe he chose the wrong words. (Pod 153 can shove it, though.) ]

Hey, it's not like I was scolding you for it or anything. You're allowed to be worried.

[ In fact he welcomes her emotions with open arms. Encourages them, even. ]

Emotions are prohibited.

[9S might not be scolding her, but she's certainly scolding herself. It doesn't matter how many times she tells herself apparently, she always ends up dropping her guard around 9S. It would be frustrating if it didn't sadden her so much.]

Let's proceed with the task at hand.

[ Aaah, 2B ... He speaks with his usual tired expression in his voice when he says this: ]

Yeah, yeah.

[ He gets it. Emotions are prohibited. She could really do without that motto.

He'll adjust himself so he's back to being supported by her normally, rather than being too close, so they can get to walking again. ]

Sooo, any signs of something we could use?

[ Since she set her pod on that job. ]

[That motto is important to her in a different way compared to anyone else who says it, but that's not something 9S needs to know.]

Potential materials located 5 meters northeast of current position.

Let's check it out. [She's actually a little surprised Pod found anything at all.]

[ Oh wow, so is he. But he's certainly not complaining. This way he can stop burdening 2B and also slow down his pulse rate.

And he nods his head. ] Right! It's a good thing it's so close by.

[ Because honestly if it were too far they'd probably never make it, damn ice. ]

[apatheia]

[She makes sure to set her pod to the scanner program, and once they approach the designated location, it starts doing that fast beep thing before revealing the item.]

Materials located.

[And there they are! Pod certainly found something within the parameters of what she requested. From what she and 9S could guess, it's definitely an ice shoe.

A singular ice shoe.]

... This is better than nothing.

[scannerly]

[ Wow, uh ... Yep. That sure is one shoe. A single shoe. ]

Yep, it sure is. If it'll keep half of me from falling, then I can work with it.

[ He is so tired of the slippery ice and the falling. ]

[apatheia]

[Poor 9S... Truly, the ice seems like a pain, even if she's not the one falling from it.]

Hopefully we won't have to spend much longer in this area.

[ He'll go ahead and work on getting that shoe on. ]

I dunno, it's kind of cool. It's not like I like falling or anything, but a new experience is a new experience.

[ He hates the falling, actually. But new things ... they're cool. ]

Even if you spend most of that new experience falling?

[She's just joking! ... Probably.]

I've seen records indicate that humanity enjoyed a wide variety of activities for snow. You could try them out for more new experiences. [Since it seems like he'd enjoy that.]

[ You are correct in that assumption, 2B. He can't tell if she's joking, though, but maybe that's for the best. ]

I've spent new experiences doing worse. [ AT LEAST THERE'S THAT. ]

But you're right. There're a lot of good things about this sort of weather, too, I guess. [ A pause. ] Maybe you and I could try making a man out of snow. [ A snowman, if you will. ]

[apatheia]

A man out of snow? [She doesn't remember if she read about that one. Humanity sure came up with weird things to spend their time on!] How do you make one?

[Honestly, what she's picturing is way more complex than it actually is.]

[ Thankfully, he knows more about it and it doesn't seem particularly difficult to him. ]

The records say humans broke down their figure into simplistic shapes — two to three spheres of snow, stacked on top of each other. Then they'd decorate it to give it the look of a human. Kind of strange, if you ask me, but there had to be something fun about it.

It sounds simple to do at least.

[So simple she's not sure how humans would find it fun... But who's she to judge, right?

Regardless, she sets to work to do just that, crouching down to try and form a big snow ball.]

[ Maybe it was in the decorating aspect. But he nods at that, and then is amused when she gets to work trying it. Wow, she actually wants to do it.

Then he'll go ahead and kneel down to make his own snowball. ]

How big do you think we should make it?

[apatheia]

Hmm... Maybe around our size? [They're supposed to make it look like a human after all, right? Then again, she's not sure how much snow that'll take to make it that big.] What do you think?
