9s voice test!!

(voice test post for 9s, taking him from the end of route b. all prompts are assuming he's in some sort of game and has seen humans before so i can avoid any threads with possible humans all going the same way.)

[ So 9S is in ... a shopping mall. And while those may only be relatively exciting for most humans, to an android like him, it's extra amazing. To the point where he can't hide how interested he is in everything.

And right now, he's peering in at the T-shirts on display in the glass window of a store.

When suddenly his pod speaks up. ]

Analysis: Unit 9S will require human currency for the exchange of goods.

[ Good job, Pod 153, you've stated the obvious. 9S sounds a little annoyed and offended at the implication that he's not aware of that. Of course he's aware of it. ]

I know that. [ Changing the subject a little. ] You think 2B would like one?

[ Because he'll get one for her. Or bring her here. Or anything!! ]

[ ... Of course it is. ]

[ Have you ever seen someone so interested in the night? No, probably not. It's not even a particularly dazzling night — it's just a normal, partly cloudy night. But everything is dark, and the moon is half visible, and you can see some of the stars, and — wow. 9S has never seen what the night looks like on Earth, considering the sun never leaves the sky where he's from. He'd thought that when it was night, it looked like the scenery from the Bunker windows, but — this is a little different. There's the moon up there in one of its phases, and clouds, and not all of the stars are visible.

It just has a different feeling.

So, while looking up at the sky, he gives the order to his pod. ]

Pod, I need you to take a picture of this.

[ It's ... winter?? Or at least very cold — cold enough for the ground to have frozen over. Which, while 9S has read records on this sort of thing, he's never experienced it. It kind of super sucks, actually. It makes it way too hard to move around and if there were machines around here, he'd be totally screwed (he's not a fighter in the first place!!).

So he looks like an idiot trying not to fall on the ice, because he's already experienced it a few times so far and he's not looking to experience it again.

Until it happens. Again. And he's sitting on the ice, totally and completely Not Here for this. Even if it is valuable data, it's annoying. ]

Man, this is such a pain. How did humans live in these sorts of conditions?

[ How does anything live in this? It makes you so vulnerable. ]

I'm not sure. The cold seems like it'd be detrimental to their survival.

[But who cares when you're an android, right? At least to that degree. The dangers of cold aside though, the ice really is a problem. She leans over slightly, extending her hand to 9S. This probably isn't the first time she's done this, and she suspects it won't be the last.]

Here. [How she manages to stay balanced on ice in those heels though?? Truly an all-purpose combat model is prepared for anything. Probably.]

[But she's only teasing, of course. Knowing 9S, she had a feeling he'd want to check out the shopping mall here. Lo and behold, here he was.

She takes a quick look around, noting all the different stores. Until seeing it herself, she never would've guessed that humans bought so many different things.]

There's a lot of variety in the clothing.

[ Scanner models, on the other hand, are not as prepared for these things. At least ... the data is cool ...

He's a little embarrassed by this whole falling repeatedly in front of 2B thing, and it shows in his awkward response. ]

Uh, thanks ... again. [ He'll go ahead and take her hand then, standing back up. ]

There's records of them wearing a lot of fur. This is probably what that was for. [ A pause. ] Dunno what they did about all this ice, though.

[ OH ... He seems a little startled by the sudden existence of 2B right by him. ]

Er — 2B! [ Where'd you come from?? ] I was actually about to go and get you. [ He couldn't help scouting out the place a little, okay ... It's what he does.

And he turns to look at some of the stores as well. ]

I know! [ There's some breathy excitement in that. ] See anything you like?

You're welcome. Again. [She really doesn't mind, although she does feel bad that he's falling so much. There has to be a better way to maneuver through ice.]

Hmm... Maybe they had shoes meant for ice? If they had clothing to protect against fur, they must have had something for ice as well.

[The power of rp, that's all! But also more seriously, 2B's probably quiet enough to sneak up on someone... even when she doesn't mean to.]

I'm not sure. It all seems like... a lot. [Is there a purpose in having so many different options??] What about you though? You were the most excited for this, after all.

[ There has to be a better way ... Maybe he could modify his shoes if he had the right materials. ]

That's probably it. I wonder if we could find any of them around here ... [ The shoes. For data, of course. And maybe wearing.

He takes a step then and feels the ice being obnoxiously slippery beneath his foot. And he tacks this on with a bit of annoyance in his voice. ] And I thought the sand was slippery. This is way worse.

Too many choices for you to decide, huh? [ 2B's always seemed to be pretty simple in her desires (if she even has any, god it's hard to tell sometimes). So it's not surprising she doesn't seem to have any preferences yet.

Mmmnn, he glances around the area again, before pointing to a relatively colorful store. ]

Say, 2B, how about that one?

[ You can't blame him for being interested in the colorful clothing when their world is totally devoid of that. ]

[A better way... She extends her arm out towards him, as if she was escorting him. (Not that they'd probably know what that means in this context, but! Oh well.) This should work for now.]

You can hold onto me until we find some. [She can tell that it's frustrating for him, and she doesn't want him to keep falling either.]

[It's... definitely not something she's used to seeing. A lot of the androids wore more than just black and white compared to them at least, but she didn't even know all these colors existed until now, let alone as clothing.]

[ 2B, you're going to make his pulse rate do the fast thing again!! Okay, actually, too late. Once he takes her arm, he can definitely feel it rising a bit. It's ... odd, to say the least. Why is it doing that?? ]

Oh — th-thanks, 2B. I'll try to locate a pair as soon as possible. [ If he can get his damn mind off his pulse rate. ] So we don't have to stay like this for too long, you know?

[ Embarrassed, who's embarrassed?? It's totally logical to not want to be in this situation, as it'd be dangerous if they were for whatever reason attacked while like this. Okay. ]

[ 9S wasn't aware a lot of these colors were possible either. They're almost blinding, but maybe trying something new would be good??

He gives a nod in response, starting towards the store with her. ]

Make sure to say something if you see one you like. [ Because he's not sure if he can trust her to do that without being reminded to do it. ] Unless you want me to just pick out everything for you.

[ Which he also has no problem doing. But if there's something she likes, he'd rather her speak up about it!! ]

[If she notices any of 9S' discomfort, she doesn't mention it. For her part, she doesn't mind. She's the one who offered after all, and they'll move faster if they're not constantly falling. Besides, it's... pleasant, walking like this. Pleasant.

She can admit that much to herself, at least.]

It's fine. Let's just find them safely. [No more falling, okay!! Although...] But what would shoes for ice look like?

But 9S will work through what he believes they'd look like in his head for a second, before responding. ]

Hmm. Maybe they'd have something pointed on the bottom. To help them dig into the ice, which would in turn keep them from sliding. [ So, shoes with little spikes is what he plans on looking for. ] At least, that's what seems logical.

[ Humans sometimes don't quite work logically, however. ]

[Can you really, 2B.... She wouldn't mind if he picked the clothes for her, but it doesn't feel fair to him. He should find something he likes first, and she can do something as simple as pick a shirt!

But it may take a while if there's this much to choose from. [T-shirts, button-ups, blouses, tank tops... What's even the purpose of having so many different types??]

[She nods. That definitely sounds logical, although the probability of them finding working shoes like that would probably be pretty low. Then again, if they can find bits of jewelry and accessories lying around all the time, who knows!]

They don't sound like they'd be easy to walk in. [And the ice is already difficult as is... Maybe that's just how it is? Humans were truly odd creatures.] Pod, do a scan of the area for anything that could fit that description.

[ Shopping malls are amazing. She might have heard about them from Weiss. People in the old times had fun places to go to! Now she gets to experience it herself.

And she isn't staying put again. Oops. She's on an important mission and putting thoughts about her "illness" aside.

That mission: find a present for her father. Yonah appears to be eyeing a T-Shirt that says "#1 Dad". That would make him happy, wouldn't it? It just shows how much she loves him! ]

Are you searching for a present too?

[ A floating talking box doesn't bother her. It must be this boy's friend! Just like how a talking book is her father's friend, right? ]

[Look, it's not her fault that someone out there thought having a hot girl fighting in heels was more important than logical practicality!! At least with her it can be justified by being a robot...]

[ O-Oh ... a human is talking to him. He's not entirely sure how to answer the question, though, because he's ... not sure if he's looking for a present? Is he? Sort of, maybe? He intends to bring the person in question here rather than get something for her without asking, so ... ]

Not ... exactly. She's not too big on presents. [ And they made plans to come here together anyway. So it'd be bad if he bought something without her! ]

[ Yonah sounds mildly surprised. That seems strange to her! Most people would be really happy receiving gifts, wouldn't they? She knows she's happy when her father brings gifts for her. Though, the better gift is when he gets to stay home with her. ]

[ Honestly 9S can't decide whether he'd be happier finding something new from human civilization or getting to modify something. Probably the human civilization one but modifying stuff takes a close second.

Right. I could probably have it done in a few minutes if we can find the right mater— [ Oh no cue more slipping. Directly into 2B, so hopefully she can keep them up and minimize the damage to just him ending up with his face pressed against her arm. ]

Oh god, 2B, please excuse his small bout of laughter at that. He doesn't hate it, but he thinks it's weirdly adorable that this is what she'd gravitate to. ]
