[ Sora is not the best with school and studying, that's for sure.

He's not completely out when she comes to talk to him — more like half asleep. So when he notices the sudden shade over his face, he cracks an eye open.

And then he yawns once she's finished talking, moving his hands behind his head as he looks up at her. ]

You know, it's probably the class. [ He can handle fighting a thousand heartless at once and ridiculous number of boss fights in a row, but studying? Much harder. ]

[heartsome]

I know you're still sparring and training, but you know I can help with school if you need it, Sora.

[Not that she didn't miss out on some classes herself and need to catch up, but even so, she's been present for more of her academic studies than either of the boys. So she has to at least offer this, in knowing and understanding that they were kind of off saving worlds.

It seems like a perfectly valid excuse for missing class, really. Still, she gives a shrug, smile tugging at her lips as she reaches to brush some hair falling at her shoulder to behind her ear.]

If you think it might help. And in return, you help me with the Keyblade?

[ That's enough to get him out of his sleepiness. Good job, Kairi. And he immediately sits up at that, sort of energetically, and turns back to look at her.

Pumping his fist up in front of him. ]

Now you're talking! [ Boy did his energy turn around, huh. ] When can we start?

[ Is this excitement for studying or for helping Kairi? Well. That's obvious. ]

Since we don't have our books here, I'm going to assume you're more excited on the training, huh?

[Kairi knows him. All too well. But that doesn't stop her being amused, chuckling at his sudden alertness and spark there. Of course he'd be up for this. Who better than to learn from the ones who wielded the Keyblade for so long and have so much more experience than her? Kairi has instinct enough, sure. That was how she dealt with the Heartless before getting back to the Islands after reuniting with the boys. But she knows she needs proper training if she wants to catch up, keep up with them and help, this time.

She holds out a hand, palm facing the ground as she summons her Keyblade.]

Now is fine. We have time before we need to get back to the main Islands.

[heartkey]

[ Then he jumps to his feet, as though he were never even napping in the first place. ]

Of course I am!

[ You know him so well, Kairi. Though considering how open he tends to be about his feelings, even onlookers could probably guess he's more excited to use his Keyblade than he is to use his brain. ]

Great! [ He says in response to having time (and doing it now), as he summons his Keyblade. ]

So, how should we do this ... Maybe you could come at me, and I'll guard ... or we could practice your guarding ... [ He's mostly thinking aloud here, his arms crossed in deep thought. Thinking about training Kairi is way better than thinking about math. ]

Well if you come at me, I'd learn to block. That's a good start, before going into offense, right?

[In theory? Kairi really isn't as sure about this, only going off of instinct and what she observed when the boys were sparring together with wooden swords over the years. Or watching them with Wakka, Tidus and Selphie. Prior to obtaining her own Keyblade, she hadn't gotten involved in all that, acting as more of a judge for their racing or sparring antics as they grew up.

But this isn't an option. Not anymore. She wants to help -- she will help, from here on. She's determined to.]

[ He believes in you, Kairi!! And he's happy to help, nodding at that suggestion. ]

Yeah, good idea! [ It'll probably be easier to start out that way, and he'll make sure to go extra easy on her so they can start out slow and let her get used to things.

And he jumps back a few times to give some distance between them, before taking a stance with his Keyblade. ]

Alright, you ready? We'll start out slow.

[heartsome]

I'm ready!

[Or, well. As ready as she'll ever be. She knows Sora will take it slow and easy on her, and the Heartless wouldn't. But she has to start somewhere other than relying on instinct. So she tries for a defensive stance, holding the Keyblade in front of her as she watches him, his movements as he jumps back, as if trying to study him, his own stance.

She'll be on guard, as best she can, to prepare to block, defend against Sora's attack.]

[ Seeing as he's self-taught with the Keyblade, he doesn't have much of an idea on how to teach or go about learning it other than practice — but he'll do his best to help her out here.

And he nods. ] Got it. Here I come, then!

[ And after a moment, he runs at her, swinging his Keyblade at her left side — and doing it deliberately slower than he would if it were a legitimate attack, ready to stop himself if he feels it'll hit her. ]

[She's watched this so many times. But it isn't usually her Sora's running at like this. Part of her is admittedly hesitant, not wanting to hurt him somehow. But there's a reason they're doing this. Going against him in practice is still going to be easier than Heartless coming at her to purposely hurt or kill.

Still, it's instinctive, watching that slower movement and raising her own blade to attempt to parry it and knock Sora's Keyblade back. One of her feet steps back in the process as if to steady herself in the movement and effort to push him back]

I've seen you go much faster, Sora.

[But she gets it. He's trying to be slower in helping her have the time to react, probably intending to work up to moving faster as she practices.]

[ Yes good, her block was good. While he's moving slower than usual, at least he's not moving so slow that it's insulting — it's still a bit natural, because he believes in her to be able to handle this. ]

But you won't learn anything if I go too fast!

[ He also ... wants to avoid hurting her, of course. He wants to make sure he can stop himself from hitting her if she's not going to be able to guard something.

And he brings his Keyblade back to strike again, from the opposite side of his last strike. ]

Were the Heartless going slower to give you a chance to learn?

[Kairi asks, no annoyance in her tone, but merely trying to make a point. Though, perhaps that isn't the best comparison. If Sora was only encountering say, the Shadows at first, that would be quite different from facing another Keyblade wielder. Still, she's quick enough to bring the Keyblade back around to clumsily block his from hitting her other side, shifting her feet to face him properly again from the movements.]

If you did hit me, it'll be fine. That's what Cure is for, right? Or Potions. I've seen you and Riku downing them and casting on each other after your sparring, Sora.

[ Well ... she does have a point there. ]

I — I guess that's true.

[ Still, he's clearly hesitant about the idea of going as hard on her as he can with Riku. The Heartless didn't give him a break, but the ones he fought in the beginning weren't as powerful as a Keyblade wielder (none are, of course). And she's already a little clumsy with her blocking.

Buuut he can compromise here. ]

Okay, I'll go a little faster. [ Seriously, his ... his normal speed would definitely be too much for her to even react to. And he's just caught between his desire to trust in her abilities, but also his desire to not go too hard on a close friend who hasn't had much practice.

And he takes a step back to prepare again. ] Just ... tell me if it's too much. [ He trusts her to, at least!

And then he comes at her quicker this time — not blindingly so, but something more noticeable than before. Luckily he has good reflexes and is ready to stop if he'll hit her, coming at her from the side he'd first attacked her on. ]

I will. I just want to make the most of this.

[Because she doesn't want to get left behind again. Wants to do her part to help, as much as she can at least. Even if it might take time for her to really get used to this and learn as much as Sora and Riku. She won't do that by avoiding practice, by not taking advantage of Sora's experience in using it to learn from him, from what she's seen over the years of his and Riku's sparring even prior to their adventures in other worlds.]

Maybe magic might be easier, but. I still need to know how to defend myself if Heartless get too close.

[The only reason she's clumsy is her inexperience in this, her relying on instinct and her speed in moving to parry, to block his attacks. Over time it would become more natural and easily. She notes the change in side he's aiming for, but this time doesn't quite make it to block it in time with the added speed. It'll take time for her to manage this.]

[ He'd rather do physical attacks anyway — magic might be too dangerous, considering he can't stop mid-attack if it looks like it'll hit her, after all.

But, luckily, he stops his Keyblade in time when it becomes apparent that she won't be able to block the attack, stopping it an inch or two from hitting her. And then ... bowing his head as he sighs in relief. ]

That was close ... [ He looks back up at her now. ] If this were magic, I wouldn't have been able to stop it like that. [ Dropping his Keyblade down to his side as he stands up straight. ] So this is definitely easier for now.

[ And then back to cheerful, optimistic Sora, as he pumps his fist in the air. ] But don't worry! You'll get all of this in no time!

[Her lips purse in some sort of frustration at her missing that hit to block it. Knowing there's limited time if she wants to keep this up and learn as much as possible before they head off again so she can be there to help them this time.]

And when we do get to focusing on magic? How did you learn, Sora?

[Training with him and Riku like this in using the Keyblade is one thing, honing physical reflex and instinct in defending herself and attacking, but magic seems another matter entirely almost in comparison to this. This right here seems more similar to her watching them with their wooden swords over the years together.]

[ That's a good question. Sora ended up getting the hang of various magics throughout his journey, and while he's skilled in using it, he's also not quite sure he's the right person to be teaching about it anyway. But luckily, he knows a few someones who are. ]

I've had some help from Merlin, so maybe you could go see him! [ A pause. ] I bet even Donald could help you out. [ ... Would Donald make a good teacher? Sora can't quite picture it. ] But I've picked up a lot of it on the way.

[ Sora is less of a study kind of person and more of a do it kind of person. ]

[heartsome]

Merlin or Donald? I suppose. But maybe once I figure these basics first before getting to the magic?

[Basics being blocking in defending herself, and then moving to attacking, of course. What she is doing with Sora right now. She figures this way she might have other options, rather than always pestering or relying on him or Riku, in learning about magic at least. Because this on top of their sparring with each other must be tiring, helping her like this too.]

[ Sparring at least tires him out significantly less than sitting still in school (somehow). He has a great deal of stamina thanks to being a Keyblade wielder and honing his strength throughout his journey. So it's not too much trouble to help out Kairi on the side! He likes helping his friends regardless, anyway.

And he nods. ] Yeah. I think you should learn this stuff before you move on to magic. [ It's best to learn your weapon before you try adding to it!

And with that, he readies his Keyblade. ]

Ready for some more?

I'll get there. You'll see!

[If she spent this long watching Sora and Riku spar, let alone Tidus and the others too, she could figure this. Even if it's mostly sloppy instinct just yet with the movements to block Sora's hits still. She's determined. Knows this might take longer with perfecting any sort of training, but stubborn enough about wanting to go with them this time that she'll certainly try all the same.

There's a nod, readying her own weapon again, mimicking his stance. This time she manages to block most of the hits, progressively getting quicker in her movements, less clumsy about it as she learns to anticipate Sora's movements from watching his body language.]

[ He's really happy to see her visibly getting better with this. This way she'll be able to help out as a Keyblade wielder, and he won't have to worry about her wellbeing as much. And he's proud of her too, of course. Even if she does still have a long way to go.

And he slows down a little with his attacks so he can speak, and she can think to respond if she wants to. ]

You're getting better, Kairi!

[ He sounds very genuinely happy there. ]

I think I am. Quicker, at least. Blocking more now than when we started.

[She's less sure on how she'd go against Riku, who seems slower but probably a heavier hitter, from what she's observed over the years in comparison with the two. But even this is an improvement, so she can't help giving a smile even as he slows and she shifts to parry. It feels good. To do something productive, useful, other than just waiting and worrying over the both of them.]

[ There's a lot of speedy Heartless out there, so being good against speed is a good thing anyway! Even if she can't block really hard hits yet, being able to block at all no matter how fast they are is helpful. ]

Yeah! You're a real natural, Kairi. [ He isn't sure if many people could pick it up this quickly. But she's certainly trying really hard to do so. ]

We'll have to show Riku later.

[ He's sure he'll be excited and will like to be involved in this, after all. ]

[heartsome]

You don't think he'll get mad? I mean, I know this is...that it's dangerous and all. I don't want to think of either of you getting hurt out there, but. That's why I want to help. To do what I can, even if I won't be as trained as either of you two.

[But that isn't stopping her trying to help somehow. To try learn as much as she can to be of some use if -- when, she goes with them next time. Part of her might be a little surprised amid the relief and gladness that Sora is as helpful as he is with this now. Perhaps she figured he, or Riku, might not be so open, protective of her as they were, let alone after what happened the first time the Islands were taken over by the Heartless. Her losing her heart then. Her being such a target as a Princess of Heart.]

[ Sora's happy to help her if this is what she wants to do — and he likes her having a form of self defense as well, of course. And he's sure, in all his optimistic glory, that Riku would feel the same!

So he shakes his head. ]

No way he'll be mad. I bet he'd even want to help!

[ They're a trio after all, and leaving him out of this doesn't feel right anyway. ]
